Winning Smoothies from the BuySpares Competition
April 14, 2011 | Competitions | 2 comments
As with all good things, the competition to win a Kenwood Smoothie Maker has come to an end and we’ve selected our winner. The judging process was a rigorous one; first we narrowed down the hundreds of smoothie recipes we received into a “top five” shortlist. We then created our top five smoothies and tasted each one to determine our overall winner!
The lucky winner is Linda Osborne with her ‘Strawberries and Cream’ concoction: Melted White Chocolate, Strawberries and Cornish Vanilla Ice Cream.
The others to make the shortlist were:
“Breakfast Smoothie” from Ms. M Flood
1 TABLESPOON OF HAMYLN OR PORRIDGE OATS
1 BANANA
6 STRAWBERRIES
SMALL CARTON OF YAKULT OR STRAWBERRY YOGHURT)
DASH OF NUTMEG
Judge’s Verdict: Sounded better than it tasted, it was a bit gritty 3/10
“Lemonade Fizz” from Susan Seaman
2 cups lemonade
2 cups frozen strawberries
1 cup strawberry yoghurt
Judge’s Verdict: Wasn’t bad, but a little watery. Perhaps more strawberries would have helped 4/10
“Chocolate Mint Smoothie” from Adam Rotherham
4 scoops peppermint ice cream
1 1/2 cups milk
2 drops peppermint extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 tablespoons bittersweet chocolate syrup
Judge’s Verdict: Delicious but not quite good enough to dislodge the Strawberries and Cream smoothie from top spot 7/10
“Buzzin’ Strawberry Smoothie” from Gareth Tyas
1 can citrus flavored energy drink, Red
Bull or similar
440g frozen strawberries
Judge’s Verdict: We didn’t get to taste this one as it exploded, but we did learn that it’s not a good idea to use energy drinks in a smoothie maker 0/10
