Could your Dishwasher be Hazardous to Your Health?

Dishwashers are reported to harbour potentially harmful fungiWe noticed this Fox News report about the possibly harmful” types of fungi that have been taking up residence in dishwashers across the world.

The report found that 56% of the dishwashers they’d studied contained the black fungi, which were found living on the rubber door seal on the inside of a dishwasher.

Although it was not determined that the fungi had been a threat to humans’ health, if you do find fungus or any other nasties lurking on your dishwasher’s door seal, the easiest thing to do would be to throw it away and replace it with a nice clean new one. They cost next to nothing (well, from about £7) and take literally minutes to replace – if you don’t believe us, check out this video which shows you exactly how to replace a dishwasher door seal!

Far be it from us to scaremonger, but to err on the side of safety it’s best to make sure you wear a pair of rubber gloves when you’re removing the seal, and give the inside of the dishwasher a good scrub with some disinfectant before you fit the new one, to discourage anything else from taking root.

The best way to make sure your dishwasher stays clean is by using a product like Whirlpool 2in1 Dishwasher Descaler & Degreaser on a regular basis, which will also help to prevent it from getting clogged up with bits of food, grease and limescale.
