7 Affordable Things To Do This Bank Holiday

August Bank Holiday Weekend

August Bank Holiday signals that the end of the school holidays are in sight whilst the countdown to Christmas is fast approaching. But before we fall into the lull of winter, make sure you enjoy what is left of the British summer by getting involved in some of the following Bank Holiday events going on around the country.

Party Hard, Drink Tea & Feast on Film Memorabilia in London:

Since debuting in 1964, Notting Hill Carnival has become a staple part of the August Bank Holiday in London – and it’s a great event to go to with friends, as a couple or with all the family. With an array of floats which feature Calypso and Pan bands, through to stall selling mouth watering Caribbean food, combined with the party atmosphere makes Notting Hill Carnival a great event to experience.

If you’re looking for something quieter but still around the London area, in Essex there’s an Alice in Wonderland Garden Trail which runs throughout August. The exhibition will feature various children’s illustrators, indoor craft activities, a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and more.

And for film fans, Madame Tussauds has a new attraction dedicated to Star Wars. Set over 2 floors, fans of the film can immerse themselves in 11 finished sets and have their pictures taken next to 16 life-like characters from the film. So if you’re a fan of Luke Skywalker, Obi-wan Kenobi or Darth Vadar, this exhibition is a must.

Car Enthusiasts & Art Lovers Are Catered For in The Midlands:

Whether you’re a car enthusiast or an art lover, during the August Bank Holiday weekend you’ll find an event in the Midlands to suit – and two we recommend are “Cars & Stripes Rockingham at Rockingham Motor Speedway” and “The Big Hoot”.

Cars & Stripes Rockingham takes place in Northamptonshire and will give visitors the chance to drive a classic American muscle car or enjoy a high speed NASCAR ride, whilst spectators will also have the chance to watch The Rockingham 100 Pick-Up Truck Race – a must for any petrol head.

The Big Hoot, running in partnership with Birmingham Children’s Hospital runs in Birmingham until September 27th is a free event, which has brought businesses, artists, schools and the local community together to create a stunning public art trail of owl sculptures.

There are 89 different fibreglass owls – all standing at 5ft+ – dotted around Birmingham to find, with each owl being carefully crafted and designed. Can you find all 89 and also enjoy some of the fantastic sights England’s second city has to offer?

Become a Superhero in Leeds:

Children and big kids alike dream of being a superhero, and there’s a good chance you’ll have had a conversation at some point about what super power you’d like to have. And whether you’d like the super power of invisibility, immortality or the speed of Flash this event at the Royal Armouries in Leeds is bound to tickle your fancy.

Running throughout the August Bank Holiday weekend those attending will learn about superhero arms and armour, the connection between super powers and real martial arts. Attendees can also attend comic book art workshops, talks and demonstrations relating to the weapons of superheroes.

Stay In, See Family & Potter Around:

With this being the last Bank Holiday until the festive period, we understand that you may want to spend it relaxing at home with loved ones or pottering around carrying out those DIY tasks which have been clogging up your to-do-list since summer began.

At BuySpares we have a range of advice to help you successfully tick off such tasks, whether it’s fixing faults with garden appliances, cleaning windows to ensure the last of the summer sun shines through or repairing an appliance or two within the home.  We’ve also got advice, tips and guidance on creating the perfect BBQ – with or without a Kenwood Chef, which can help you make incredible homemade burgers and tomato sauce.

However you opt to spend your August Bank Holiday, make sure it’s a good one and that you recharge your batteries ahead of the countdown to winter and the fun festivities the end of the year brings with it.
