How To Remove and Clean Your Dishwasher Filters

Removing Dishwasher Filter

Your dishwasher is no doubt an appliance which you give little thought to, until something goes wrong – and then you realise how much you rely on it. Thankfully with regular maintenance, you can keep your dishwasher living longer and performing better. One such maintenance step to take is regularly cleaning the dishwasher filters.

As maintenance on an appliance goes, the cleaning of a filter is an easy step which takes little time and requires no tools. But it is one job which is essential if you want to keep your dishwasher working to its full potential and leaving your dishes sparkling clean after every wash.

Step 1:

Before you can remove and clean the filters within your dishwasher, you’ll first need to locate it; which is easier to do if you remove the bottom basket from the appliance, giving you unrestricted access to the bottom of your machine.

Step 2:

With the basket out, you should be able to see the top of the filter close to where the door joins your dishwasher, once it has been located, removing it from your appliance is as easy as 1, 2, 3 and it can be done using your hand alone.

NB: When taking the filter out of your appliance, be careful for any debris caught in it, such as broken glass which could pose a risk.

Step 3:

Now the filter is out, empty any debris which has been caught within it – this is most likely to be old food from your pots and pans – before washing the filter and its holder in warm soapy water.

If during the washing stage, you notice that the filter has been damaged; at BuySpares you’ll be able to find a range of genuine and compatible dishwasher filters, which will breathe new life into your appliance.

Step 4:

Whilst the filter is out of the dishwasher, and drying, now is the perfect time to give the appliance a thorough clean, removing a build up of detergent and limescale. Take the time to also clean the door seals, and check that they are still in a good condition, as a faulty or dirty door seal can impact on the performance of your machine.

Whilst you’ve got unrestricted access to the bottom of your dishwasher, you should also take the time to top-up the dishwasher salt and rinse aid; helping to soften the water (and thus minimising the risk of limescale build up) and reducing chances of water marks appearing on your glasses when they come out.

Cleaning your dishwasher filters on a regular basis using these four simple steps will help to keep your dishwasher in top working condition, saving you money on your energy bills and also reducing the risk of having to pay out for a new appliance.
